Back in 2016 we adopted our first female Maremma ("Bella") to protect our 86-acre farm in British Columbia, Canada, when we bought our first sheep. Our little farm grew to include goats, ducks, guinea fowl, and cattle so we decided to get a second Maremma in 2018--this time a male ("Bacio") so we could also potentially breed the dogs. We got both dogs tested, and both had good hips and were good candidates to breed.
Bella was born in April 2016 and bred by The Meadows Ranch in British Columbia, Canada. She is not registered, but has proven herself to be an excellent guardian. She is a beautiful dog with a shorter coat. She is very protective of the herd and likes to patrol the perimeter.
Bacio (pronounced "Bah-chio") is registered with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America. He was born in June 2018, and bred by Whispering Aspen Ridge in Saskatchewan, Canada. He is a very handsome fellow and in our opinion is the ideal Maremma. He is gentle and laid back, and is usually found sitting right in the middle of the herd/flock.
More recently in 2022, now living down in upstate South Carolina, we adopted a second female Maremma ("Bianca") from Vermont since Bella is 7 years old. Her genetic test results came back as 100% Maremma, and will have her hips checked when she reaches 2 years old to see if she is a good candidate to breed.
